Record Breaking 5G Technology

Bristol University, in partnership with Lund University, National Instruments and BT, are developing new 5G infrastructure technology to reduces network congestion by providing more channels in the same spectrum and provide enhanced quality and additional services. The team asked KD to support the development of new microwave antennae to demonstrate and test the Massive MIMO system

  • Prototyping

  • Successfully produced extreme levels of accuracy to achieve record breaking technology
  • A system that could support 22 times as many devices when compared to the 4G networks at the time
  • Increased network resources to support capacity to accommodate the new demands such as virtual reality (VR), autonomous driving and the Internet of Things (IoT)

Technical Innovation

Development and manufacture of prototype microwave antennas for a new innovative antenna.

Kinneir Dufort's innovative ideas, attention to detail and extremely accurate CNC machined construction resulted in a design that provides not only the desired performance for our measurements but is robust and adaptable to our future needs.

Paul Harris, Centre for Doctoral Training in Communications

University of Bristol

KD leveraged experience from 40 years of engineering knowledge to produce a solution for this new technology.

Massive MIMO

Precision Engineering

KD built and assembled microwave antennas to Bristol University’s specifications. The build required manufacture and assembly to tolerances of +/- 0.1mm as well as detailed hand assembly and finishing.

Excellence in Prototyping

Producing functioning prototypes, intended for both technical analysis and public demonstrations.
