Improving women’s health outcomes through informed innovation

Providing healthcare products and services better suited to the needs of women has been a long-standing focus of Kinneir Dufort. With an increasing industry interest in this historically underserved half of the global population, the breadth of work KD undertakes in the women’s healthcare space continues to expand.

Combining the rigour of a controlled medical device development process with an empathy for the comfort and experience of the end-user, KD are uniquely positioned to support the design and development of women’s health products, working with femtech start-ups and larger healthcare organisations alike.

Within healthcare, in areas such as breast and cervical cancer screening and diagnostics, menstrual care, fertility, maternity, menopause, mental and social care, women have been historically underserved with poorer health outcomes as a result. response to this, and with an aim to close the gap between perception and reality when designing for women, KD formed XXEquals, our female-centred innovation, design and product development in healthcare. XXEquals’ mission is to deliver healthcare products and experiences that are tuned to women’s needs and are fundamentally inclusive.

With disparities in women’s health outcomes being increasingly recognised and with startups and established businesses recognising the potential value in bringing better solutions to market, our team are pleased to be supporting numerous new client ventures. Creating and supporting business cases

Often the challenge in women’s health starts with getting access to funding. This isn’t a surprise, with funding predominantly being controlled by people who haven’t experienced many of the conditions that need to be addressed. KD have experience supporting women’s health businesses in several ways:
  • Helping to define the product value proposition including data to enable investors to understand the scale of the problem and opportunity.
  • Using our cross functional expertise and project managers to provide costed approaches to ensure confidence from investors when fundraising.
  • Assessing existing plans to mitigate risk and enable the quickest route to market. This often takes place as part of the due diligence review in an investment cycle and involves more detailed technical review of the product under development, including review of documentation that includes user requirements, current designs and risk management.
